Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea

Located about 30 minutes away from central Tokyo, Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea are a must-visit if you’re a Disney theme park fan. Tokyo Disneyland is more similar to Disney World’s Magic Kingdom and Disneyland in Anaheim, California. Tokyo DisneySea is a completely unique park, with many rides that are only found in Tokyo.

DisneySea is, in my opinion, the cooler park to visit. With various regions, it feels more like Epcot. There are 7 areas, each with its own unique theming and charm.

  • Mediterranean Harbor – Featuring canals, Italian architecture, and a lagoon, this area is designed to resemble a Mediterranean port city
  • American Waterfront – This area reflects the American East Coast during the early 20th century, with elements inspired by New York City and Cape Cod.
  • Lost River Delta – Inspired by the adventures of explorers, this area is reminiscent of Central and South American landscapes.
  • Port Discovery – A futuristic, marine-themed port that focuses on ocean exploration.
  • Arabian Coast – Based on the Arabian Nights and the fictional setting of Agrabah from Disney’s “Aladdin.”
  • Mysterious Island – Inspired by Jules Verne’s works, including “Journey to the Center of the Earth” and “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.”
  • Fantasy Springs – Opening in June 2024, this is the newest edition to the park and is based on the Frozen, Tangled, and Peter Pan movies.

  1. Our plan of action for Tokyo DisneySea was roughly:
  2. Aim for a standby pass for Anna and Elsa’s Frozen Journey, as this is the first to go
  3. Rope drop Journey to the Center of the Earth, a DisneySea exclusive ride
  4. Ride 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, another DisneySea exclusive ride
  5. Spend the rest of the day trying to get a standby or DPA for Rapunzel’s Lantern Festival
  6. Single Rider Indiana Jones Adventure
  7. Single Rider Raging Spirits
  8. Purchase DPA for Soarin’
  9. Ride Tower of Terror

Tokyo Disneyland, by comparison, was a much easier time. We were able to purchase the Disney Premier Access passes that we wanted, and utilized the Disney 40th Anniversary free passes to skip the line for free. If you’re diligent about utilizing the app, you might just not wait in line at all! You can purchase another DPA 90 minutes after your last purchased DPA and you can book a new Priority Pass 120 minutes after your last booking or immediately after you scan into your last booked pass.

  1. Here’s was our plan of action:
  2. Buy DPA for Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast – this is a TDL exclusive ride
  3. 40th Anniversary Priority Pass for Pooh’s Honey Hunt – this is another TDL exclusive ride
  4. Rope Drop Monster’s Inc. Hide & Go Seek
  5. Ride Small World
  6. Visit ToonTown
  7. Ride Haunted Mansion
  8. Ride Big Thunder Mountain
  9. Ride Pirates of the Caribbean
  10. 40th Anniversary Priority Pass for Space Mountain
