Springtime Activities in New Jersey

Despite the fact that the trees attack me every year with their pollen, spring is actually one of my favorite times of the year. I adore sweater weather and springtime in the Northeast is a lovely 50-60 degrees. And of course, all the flowers are starting to bloom! While the New York Botanical Garden and the Brooklyn Botanical Garden are two of my favorite plant-spots to visit, there are actually a ton of awesome springtime activities in New Jersey as well. Check these spots out next spring!

Once a country estate, Reeves-Reed Arboretum is now a 13.5 acre non-profit, public garden located in Summit, New Jersey. During the month of April, you can visit the Arboretum for their Daffodil Bowl, filled with thousands of blooming daffodils. They also host a special Daffodil day where they have all sorts of activities and food trucks. Enjoy a leisurely self-guided walk through the Arboretum grounds or you can join their Horticulture and History Group Tour, a 45-60 minute guided tour.

At 360 acres, Branch Brook Park is the largest public park in the city of Newark. The park is noted for having the largest collection of cherry blossom trees in the United States. They have more than 4,000 cherry trees that blossom during April, which is a greater number, both in variety and number, than the famed Washington, D.C. cherry blossoms. Open 365 days a year, the park welcomes visitors from dawn until 10 p.m. Admission to the park is free.

Go Tulip Picking at Holland Ridge Farms, which features over 8 million tulip blooms over their 300 acre family farm. Their tulip picking season is a great time, with photo ops and U-Pick tulips at $1 per stem. Entry is $15 per person and they have a ton of food trucks and picnic tables for you to enjoy the great springtime weather.
