This year, it was my turn to plan our anniversary trip, since X planned our first anniversary. On one of our road trips, I picked up a bunch of Michigan and Ohio brochures. A brochure for Hocking Hills caught my eye. I did some research, which led me to Glenlaurel: A Scottish Inn & Cottage, located in Rockbridge, Ohio, a few miles away from Hocking Hills.
I was instantly taken with the place. It sounded like a perfect weekend getaway. They offer a variety of accommodations – two houses (Carriage House and Manor House) with guest rooms and suites, several crofts (a smaller version of a cottage), and six cottages. We opted to stay in their Manor House, in the MacGregor Room.
When we arrived to our room, the fireplace was on and soft Scottish music was playing. The room was so cute and homey. The MacGregor Room features an in-room whirlpool tub for two, a gas log fireplace, and private balcony. Each room also comes with L’Occitane bath products. Anyone who knows me knows I’m an exclusive L’Occitane user!
The Manor House is also home to three dining rooms and their parlor that is stocked with a bar, books, and games. Each morning, a three course breakfast is served, and is included with your room price. You start off with a freshly baked scone, Scottish-style porridge, and the Chef’s entrée. For dinner, you can take part in their 5 course (6 courses for Saturdays) dinner. We opted to do both nights in the dining room and we were truly treated to two amazing meals.
Glenlaurel’s 140-acre estate offers some breathtaking hiking and walking trails. There are many walking trails, including Thistle Bluff Walk, Highland Scott’s Trail, and Camusfearna Gorge.
It had snowed the day before we arrived, so we didn’t see too much, as it was also 2 degrees that day! But, we did hike up to the Camusfearna Gorge and saw a semi-frozen Gorge.
Glenlaurel is the spot to go to for your anniversary. Join their Anniversary Club and receive 5% off on your first stay for one night. Every following year that you return, you get an additional 5% discount, capping at 25%. They also give you a handcrafted keepsake plate with Glenlaurel’s design for the year. Look at this cute Scottie dog plate we received!
Their cottages and crofts do not have any WiFi – only the Carriage and Manor House rooms do. We were able to laze about and watch Netflix together in front of the fireplace. Being in the same place for an extended period of time is rare for us, so small things like cuddling up and watching shows together don’t happen often. This was just the perfect, relaxing weekend that we needed!
