5 Spots to Have a Pre-Show Meal Near Lincoln Center

Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, or as most of us New Yorkers know as just Lincoln Center, is home to renowned performing arts organizations including the New York Philharmonic, the Metropolitan Opera, the New York City Ballet, the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, and the Juilliard School. So it’s easy to say that there is a lot going on at LC at any given time, whether you’re a fan of the opera or the ballet. Recently, we had both sets of in-laws visit us and we ended up spending a lot of time around the LC area. So here’s a list of amazing spots to have a pre-show meal, whether it be a matinee or an evening show.

The One With the View – Robert NYC
Located on top of The Museum of Arts and Design at Columbus Circle, Robert offers breathtaking views of Columbus Circle. You have to call them after making your reservation to personally request a window table, but it is so worth it. The food is also great, so you’re not just paying for the view. I had this amazing Tuna Tartare and the juiciest Roasted Amish Chicken. They were also so nice and gave us a complimentary little treat when I told them we were celebrating X’s birthday early.

The Fancy One – Porter House Bar and Grill
Porter House is an upscale steakhouse located inside the Time Warner Center offering Central Park views. The views at the window booths are spectacular and it’s a great special occasion spot. The Bone Marrow is an insanely large portion and completely decadent. And the Cowboy Rib Steak was equally as large and equally as decadent.

The Classic Italian Spot – Bocca Di Bacco
Located just a few blocks from Lincoln Center, Bocca Di Bacco serves up classic Italian dishes with an extensive wine list. If you’re looking for solid Italian food, this is the place for you. Their Burrata starter is phenomenal – especially paired with their freshly baked skillet bread. I also thoroughly enjoyed their Rigatoni Vodka, which is a dish I’m super picky about.

The Crowd Pleaser – The Smith
The Smith is a casual American Brasserie with a little bit of everything for everyone. If you’re seeing a matinee, they have a great breakfast and lunch menu. If you’re seeing an evening show, their dinner menu will please just about the pickiest eater in your party. Their Shrimp & Grits is absolutely divine – get it with a side of ciabatta bread to soak up the runny egg. The Benedict Johnny with cheddar cornbread and maple chicken sausage is also a solid choice.

The Adventure – Chalong
Named after a district in Phuket, Chalong focuses on seafood and Southern Thai cuisine. The chef-owners are Fish Cheeks and Soothr alumnus, so if you enjoyed those restaurants, you know Chalong will be good. The interior is decorated with gorgeous straw lamps and some warm-toned furniture. Even if you’re not good with spice, order the Crab Curry. My mouth was on fire, but it was so flavorful that the rest of the table gobbled it up like vultures. They also update their menu for the seasons, so we had this amazing pork belly dish during their summer menu.
